Hello;
I have a set of old pipes that have been in my family for over 100 years. I was once told when I was a youngster that they were prob. hendersons by a visiting pipe major ( I believe it was the northern border caledonian pipe band, no matter). It was of no consequence to me at that age and over the years I just accepted that they were in fact hendersons. Now Im getting back into piping and am very curious. Ive searched extensively and cannot find a stamp although I understand that this is not uncommon. If anyone can suggest a reputable source or expert on the subject or any other helpful advice please pass it it along. Thanks, john macdonald.

Look at this past issue of Piper & Drummer magazine http://www.piperanddrummer.com/
they have an article of several manufacturers and photos of distinguishing features.
Also, John Recknagel http://www.mindspring.com/~glenceol/apb/Recknagl.htm is a good source, and does pipe appraisals for a very reasonable cost. He should be able to steer you in the right directions, and give you an estimate of their financial worth.
