MacMurchie quote was
DM-3 - $1080 with out case

Naill quote was
DN-2 - $1529 with a case
the rest is below
Small Canmore with Zipper or a Ross?
Bagcover
Silk Cord
Selbie drone reeds
Telescoping blowstick
C1- Shepherd poly Chanter
Pipe Chanter reed
Beeswax
Yellow hemp
Pipe Case
Maintenance accessories
shipping and handling

What do you folks think of MacMurchie? This is for my 10 year old who has been playing the chanter and a goose for a 18 months. Should I go with the Naill or MacMurchie?

To be honest, you'll wind up upgrading to a Naill anyway down the line. Get the Naill from the start. If you have the money, make the investment in the best instrument for your child. Good luck to you and congratulations to that new young piper!

Get what you can afford. If for some reason your son dose not stick to it then it will not matter. Also for the first years in piping it will matter little. For keeping within a budget, do what you can afford. Especally if it means playing the bagpipe or not.

I can buy the Naills. Just did not want to throw away good money for the sake of a name if the quality was the same. He has wanted to play since he was 5 yrs. So we got him started at 8 yrs. He is able to play the "79th's Fairwell to Gibralter" very well. And the instructor said it was time. He finished his book, with the last song being The Green hills of Tyrol. The absolute one thing I do not want to do is buy a set of pipes and have to replace them soon.

If you don't want to replace the pipes, then go with the Naill. Honestly, the only time you'll upgrade is if you want silver down the road. Other than that, ANY model of Naill you buy you'll have for life! Its quality is truly unmatched.

Brian.

I can`t speak through experience about Naill pipes so I can`t do a comparison, but I can highly recommend MacMurchie quality.I`ve been using a set of DM-2`s and have been impressed with the quality of the wood, finish and workmanship. The drones are very steady and full sounding with Wygent synth. reeds and the poly chanter I found to be somewhat sweeter sounding than other chanters I`ve heard(used Apps and Megarity&Ross reeds)I`ve been very satisfied with MacMurchie pipes, they work for me...best of luck with your decision....Thom
