Seems like most folks like the Naills. I am also considering the following setup that has been recommended to me and wondered if anyone could help me with the pro's and cons and if someone could explain why one might sound better etc. Everyone has been of great help and I have narrowed my choices down to these two options.

I can get a set of David Booth pipes Db2 with a Warnuck (sp?) chanter, Canmore bag, EZ Drone reeds, overbored blowpipe fitted for me, velvet bag silk chords. This would be "customized"

or the Naill Dn2 with Naill hide bag, selbie reeds, wool cords.

I know I'm asking a lot of questions but I want to get the best for my money and am committed to piping so I dont want to have to upgrade in the future. Is it mostly preference or are the differences that noticable. If I get the Booths will I get dissatisfied with them and wished I had gotten the Naill's, if so why?
Thanks again I really appreciate the help and advice.

Launch? Like right over his shoulder!!! LOL Here's a good tip. Get a small sandbag and anchor it to the bottom of the Canmore to give it some weight and stability!

I have Played Booth bagpipes since 1995, and could not be happier with them. I bought a set of full imitation ivory then, and 2 years later, I changed to a half silver set. I have played for 26 years in Scotland, and would seriously recommend them.

Incidently, my band won first place in grade 2 on saturday at Dunbar, not too bad an advert.

Congratulations!!! Just out of curiosity how many Booths were in the band that day. Or better, what was the brand make-up of the entire circle?

not too sure, ive not been in the band long, however, i do know that the Boghall & Bathgate Pipe band encourage all of their new pipers to bye David Booth Bagpipes, they are considered one of the top breeding grounds for new talent in Scotland.

SK, for heavens sake, buy a set of pipes!!!! You've been asking for advice for what, two months or more? Look at the answers to this set of questions, everyone is tired of giving you advice. You're the one who will play these pipes, you are the one who has to pay for them and you are the one who has to take the responsiblity for making the decision, right or wrong.
I believe I and others have stated that you can't possibly know what you will like 10 or 20 years from now. Also that you can't possibly know what will be popular then.
Sorry about being so brusque here, but isn't the playing of the pipes far more important then the pipes themselves?
I know I'm more impressed by someone who plays good then someone who has nice pipes.
Hank
