Here's a couple of things to think about -

1) When you are finished with your practice session, is the reed wet? The more moisture a reed takes on, the weaker it will get. There are a lot of gadgets on the market designed to get around this problem by eliminating or reducing the moisture that gets to the reed. I like the basic water trap, it works good for me.

2) Make sure you are not overblowing. The proper pressure is the minimum required to sound high A, or, with some reeds, slightly above this pressure. If you keep the pressure at this level, a good reed will last for years. Start overblowing (meaning play at a higher pressure), and the reed won't last a month.
