I've heard several stands of plastic pipes, and if they were reeded correctly, they were nice. I cannot say that I would take them into an open competition, but they did not sound bad at all. Having a set for foul weather is an uotstanding idea. Provided, of course, that one plays in foul weather.

one thing to note: i have heard several pipers state that some drone reeds are particularly finicky in these. (of course, the same can be said for any reed in any pipe).

so, you may also want to solicit some information regarding that component.
