Subject: Service in Ceylon 1950-52

I served in Ceylon (Sri Lanka)as an MT Fitter, arriving in 1950, (at the time of the Korean War.) This is before your web-site period.
At this time,an extension of service was imposed, known as the "King's Year" and I subsequently returned to the UK for demob. in August 1952.
Very interested your web-site info, and photos. It brings back youthful memories,I have a set of "official black and white photos taken by one Cpl."Lofty"Legg(?)in 1950, the camp photographer. Regards, Harry Baugh.

Jim Duncan sent this through, how true!

F/Lt S*****ley was a snob of the lowest order, and cared little for the SASF guys. We were expecting trouble from the natives at one time, and held some exercises. As I was a marksman, I was told to set up a bren gun in the bush and
ensure it was well camouflaged, and covered a clear sweep of the pan (aircraft dispersal area). I had a bloke on a .303 with me who would also help with the bren magazines. S******ley went off to oversee some of the other positions and when he came back, he couldn't see me anywhere. I had camouflaged the position so well, that he was almost on top of me when I jumped up and answered him! He was not
amused, and bollocked me accordingly! I loved it!
