Subject: WJ335 Crash at Abington

I was stationed at Abington and witnessed this crash. It was a Monday morning as I recall and it appeared to me that the aircraft took off with the elevator locks in position. It really shocked me!

Sadly this accident happened at Abingdon on take off on 22nd June 1953 where 6 died.

Tony, I think you may be confusing this accident with TG577 that happened at Little Baldon, near Abingdon in 1965, where all 41 on board died including Sergeant J Hurry. It was by sheer coincidence that your post came in here today as I only wrote up the report on TG577 last night.

This report can be found on the page "Hastings Bangs and Prangs, Splashes and Crashes" any further names you require please contact me

John
