I am looking for information on a RAF plane which crashed in Egypt killing amongst others my cousin Derek Savill who was about 17/18 years old.
The scant information my elderly mother can remember is that he was an engineer maintaining a plane which was to be shown to some visiting dignitaries. Before they took the dignitaries up,the crew took the plane up on a test flight. They asked if the engineers wanted to go up for the flight and they all scrambled on board. The plane went up and immediately nosed dived into the ground, killing,I believe, all who were on board. I am guessing that this was approximately in the mid 1950's.
If anyone could at least tell me where to look for this information I would be very grateful.
Thankyou
Elaine Norris

Elaine, your cousin was killed in the crash of Hastings C1, TG602, near RAF Shallufa, Egypt, on 12 January 1953. The starboard elevator broke away from the aircraft, followed very shortly therafter by the port elevator. As you mention, it then dived into the ground.
There were 5 crew and 4 passengers, including your cousin on board at the time. All perished in the accident.
