Paula, Like yourself, I am in college to obtain my certification to become a classroom teacher. I was diagnosed at age 7 now 36. I have worked for the local school system as a paraeducator for the past 9 years. I have been assigned to kindergarten and I have taught many struggling readers the sounds of letters and how to blend the together. (these are my major weakness along with speed) At the end of last year my principle said she needs a good strong "READING TEACHER" in third grade. I sat wondering why me? The little girl that could not read is the last one to be a READING TEACHER. But I know how the children feel. I also have two children of my own that have IEPs...I know how the parents feel. I know how frustrating it is for the educator that cannot relate for the students the way you and I can. Use what you know about yourself and they will benefit from it. We have gain strenght by using and teaching ourselves how to compensate for our differences. Trust yourself! you will do great.
