Thanks Mike.. it makes sense.... but I never would have guessed a connection to the Yankees. These battleships and that lineup WERE heavy hitters, that's for sure!
Uncle Ray was and is still a HUGE Yankees fan... the guys on his ARD often listened to the games on the radio - they had one with an 'enhanced' reception, courtesy of an enterprising electrician aboard. I don't know exactly how, but he once said that they seldom missed a broadcast game and usually had good reception. (Armed Forces network?) I'll have to stir his memories by asking him about this.
The one time I really got him was when I gave him an autographed baseball... from Bob Feller, Cleveland Indian and Hall of Famer. He still prizes that baseball - even if it wasn't from a beloved Yankee!
