Accurate or not, the attitude that lent itself to this cartoon by Dr. Seuss explains why thousands of loyal Americans of Japanese descent were placed into internment camps. These are not to be confused with the Nazi concentration camps in any way, although many would have you believe that. There was no forced labor, and no planned methods of extermination, and for the most part they were provided for as far as food, medical attention and basic necessities. There was a genuine, albeit mistaken fear, that the large Japanese population on the west coast would indeed rise up against their adopted homeland. We've seen the same attitude resurface since 9/11 directed against Muslims.
