My dad, Lt. JG Perry R. Ayres, was a Navy Doc aboard LST-761. He led the first group of corpsmen onto Iwo Jima at 5 hours after H-hour on D-day to set up the first beach evac unit. This information is recorded in "Across the Reef: The Amphibious Tracked Vehicle at War" by Victor J. Croizat. I am searching for anyone who might remember him. He rarely spike of his time in the service, so I have learned most of what I know about it from Mr. Croizat's book. Any information would be appreciated.
