The LST 863 had a very short life as many LSTs of WWII did. There may be some members of the ship alive and members of the US LST Association. (www.uslst.org) You may join this organization (in your dad's name) for $20 dollars and they will send you a list of any shipmates of the ship (LST 863) who are members. You can then get in touch with them and get actual information and possibly photos. Some may even recall your dad and worked onboard ship with him.
Good luck!
