The LST 608 had a very short but active life so shipmates and history is rather small compared to other ships that were kept in service longer. You best bet would be to join the US LST Association ( www.uslst.org ) in your father's name. You will then receive a list of shipmates who served on the 698 and you can maybe contact some who are still living. The cost is $20 for a year and you get the list plus a newsletter every other month with stories and such on LSTs of all wars. There is also a DVD available for $25.00 from them that has all of the previous Newsletters, photos and stories which likely includes some of the LST 698. You can search for articles on the 698 without having to go through the whole DVD looking. Good luck.
