My father, Joe E. Stewart,Motor Machinist, was a plank owner and made the 47 day voyage from San Diego (or Long Beach?) to Sidney, via the Solomons ("to pick up water and the officers' laundry"). Glover is a familiar name. If he was the engineering officer, I have some interesting personal stories for you. If he was the Skipper, I still have stories. My father is still with us, but his memory is a little fuzzy. I would love to trade rememberences (and maybe some lies). We have a few "unauthorized" pictures on the 474.
My father left the 474 after the Manilla operation, being offered Chief or going home (he was Acting Chief at the time). He thought his decision was a no-brainer.
