My dad was an officer on the LST 557. His name was "Jick" Kenderdine. He passed away in 2001, my mom recently passed away and I am going through all of his war papers and letters. He only told me a few things about the war, very little info, and I would love to know more.
He did write about the typhoon of October 8,1945, and the terror he experienced as he was steering the ship when urgent orders came to turn the ship 180 degrees. The typhoon was heading directly in their path. He managed to overcome the 23 foot swells that were tossing the ship all over the place.
