Paul, my deceased father-in-law was on board the LST 512 with your father. His name was Peter P. Spofford. While going through his deceased widow's belongings, I came across a booklet from the March 1945 to January 1946 tour as a Traveling Exhibit Ship. There is also a poster for it's stop in Charlotte. This is the same poster now in the Library of Congress.
There were also many letters sent home, and he wrote of 'something big' coming, and he would 'be out of touch for a while' just before the landing at Normandy. Regards,
