I have a 2000 Voyager with around 107k miles. Last Nov at work, the starter would turn the bike over a couple of times and then kick out (eventually got it jump-started and home). Temps were in the single digits, so I thought maybe it was the 1 year old battery or it was just being bucky from the cold. It's been on a battery tender since then and I tried to get it started last weekend - same thing. Several times, it would just spin out but not catch at all. When it did crank the engine, it sounded normal, so I'm sure the battery was fully charged.
Not sure if they still use a Bendix or what, but something is worn out or broken to prevent it from engaging. Is there a starter rebuild kit available anywhere and can this be done by someone at home? I've handled a wrench or two, but never for something like this.
If a rebuild is not an option, any clue how much a replacement starter will/should cost? I'm not in a real hurry to take the bike or a starter into the Stealer seeing as how I am still sore from the last time they worked me over (I mean worked on the bike).
