I re-read my e-mail. I didn't realize that simply asking a question would get responses that suggest there's something wrong with me because I thought that selling things meant trying to get the best price for them.

I can certainly understand the perspective of offering at a lower cost to people / friends that you know. My point, I guess, is that the AVA website is viewed by members but is also viewed by anyone who chooses to find the site (610,000 hits to the website can't all be members). Giving away an item at a lower cost than it's worth to someone who just happens to look at the website without being a member is why I asked the question. For example, (Mike from Ill and PAL), if I bumped into you guys at a rally and we talked about something that you were looking for that I had, I'd probably end up giving it to you or at least give it to you for a really fair price. You guys are fellow AVA members and as such, automatically my friends. To suggest that everyone who reads the AVA website is our 'AVA brother' is a little far fetched. There are people out there who's only intention on buying a 'good deal' is so they can re-list it on E-bay. I would never do that. There are also people who have probably visited our AVA website for years without taking the step of joining.

Because of this, my perspective is a little different. I think there are many ways to provide what you refer to as 'people things'. Some people give things away at a low cost. I can't afford to do that regularly. I do embrace the AVA as a member in good standing and I try to do everything I can to support it:
I've offered our house to anyone on vacation going past the Buffalo NY area including anything I can...dinner, bedroom, tools, etc.
I've placed our name on the AVA membership to include helping anyone on the road in need.
In my own way, I think I've added value to the other members through my help with technical issues where I've posted message tips with photographs to try and make someone's elses job easier.
My wife and I also support the AVA through the annual membership, supplying articles for the newsletter, and actively being involved in the annual rallies.

We've made several good friends through our involvement with this great organization and I can honestly say that our motorcycle and social lives are better because of the AVA.

I have to draw the line when it comes to giving away valuable items at a low cost though. Go ahead and pick on me if you want. Everyone's personal life is different. Not that you care, but we have 2 daughters in college and a son going to college next year. If you want to try and suggest that in some way, I am less of an AVA member because I try and 'make a profit' on items, you really don't know what you're talking about. I suspect, (God willing), if my wife and I continue to be healthy and financially strong enough to keep doing what we love to do after the financial responsibilities of our children slows down (I suspect it never really goes away completely), we would love to be in the position of helping others in monetary ways that you guys are suggesting.

If others choose to sell items on the AVA for less than fair market value, great. Hopefully, you're helping someone who can't afford these items without a little help. I stand corrected.

Also, to put this whole discussion in perspective, I guess I should have actually looked at the classifieds section before I asked my question. Considering the low amount of ads, I guess it wasn't really worth me asking about. Now I've opened myself up to unnecessary ridicule.

Again, Sorry.

By the way, anyone want to buy a Gel Seat Pad Cheap? (Just kidding).
