Hello to Voyagers everywhere, my radio was giving me grief for a while. My bike being an 86 model has no CB or intercom system, so I have replaced the radio/tape player with a radio/cd player along with new speakers. Before I go any further I am a semi retired Electrical Engineer, this was quite a big job. Briefly I removed the fairing, took out the speakers, amplifier, all the wiring including the radio remote controls, handlebar ones too, and yes I ripped out the old radio, taking off the faceplate finding a rubber seal between the housing and the radio, this I cut out and the radio came out backwards after removing a rubber mounted bracket from either side of the radio. I replaced the speakers with new 120 watt units. Then to the radio/cd player, a plinth 290mm x 60mm x 30mm deep needs to be made with a slot in it's face to receive the new radio/cd player. The slot on the dash of my Voyager was 48mm high the radio is 50mm high so with a little light relieving, slide the radio/cd player into it's plinth, then the whole lot goes into the hole the old player left, simple eh! I have typed up details of what I used if anybody wants a copy please get in touch. The player I used has a 4 x 50 watt output as my bike only has 2 speakers (on the front) I ganged up my outputs giving me 100 watts per speaker. This was all done about a month ago now, so it's early days, I don't get volume increasing automatically with speed and I don't have handlebar controls. What I do get is crystal clear radio and a big knob to control the volume (the plinth projecting the radio 30mm towards me works well, this is the limit before it fouls the handlebars). It has been a big decision and a big job to do, it isn't a perfect arrangement but it looks good and works well, cd player too.
Kind Regards, Martin
