Mike,
The brakes on the XII are marginal, at best, for a cycle of its size and weight. They were designed in the mid-80's, with the technology that was available then. Add to the mix that you apparently ride two-up (maybe even pull a trailer) and live in Florida with many of the poor drivers in the country. I would suggest that anything you can do to improve your braking capability will work to your advantage.
I installed the NorCal SS lines on my '03 XII at about 40K miles because I could "sense" the brakes were not as good as when the cycle was new. I could also "feel" the lines expand when I applied the brakes firmly.
I would suggest you consider the change. My SS lines had a protective, clear plastic coating over the outside that would help with your corrosive atmosphere. I don't recall any coating over the fittings. You'll need to contact the NorCal guys for that kind of info. I'm certain they'll be willing to assist you.
By the way, take your time when you bleed the brakes after installation of the SS lines. I recall that it was a bit of a challenge to get them completely bled, particularly the rear brake.
Hope this helps.
