having been only a lurker then and what I noticed vs what I would notice now about a new fandom is that I missed out on some of the issues that really start to matter once you start to write - like ratings. I have no idea if there were ratings when I first started reading stories or not!

I sorta think - not - because I have the vaguest ppossible memory of some discussion threads on the SBs when ratings started to become the norm.... but I have no memory of what or how that got promtped - because there was plenty of porn from day one, and violence too. I mean, it was LFN fanfic after all!

I also rember a few fics where if you wanted the more explicit version, you could email and ask - but I think I was too shy to even do that!
