Is that the dialogue of the show itself wasn't exactly very natural. Instead, it was quite terse and restrained, most of the time. As a result, when I "hear" the characters speak in my head (and I do *hear* them -- my imagination is much more auditory than it is visual), they speak the way I was accustomed to hearing them on the show -- that is, without too many ums and ahs.

There were, however, many silences and pauses, and those are tricky to convey. I do try to break up the dialogue with description occasionally in order to mimic the rhythm that various characters have. Sometimes just putting in "he said" creates enough of a mental pause.
