Subject: Sign Language Interpreter Resource Website Seeks Volunteers

ANNAPOLIS, Md - http://signlink.biondosmith.com which offers resources to the American Sign Language (ASL) community is seeking volunteers to provide content for the news and forum areas. Editors Matt and Brigitte Biondo-Smith (she is a sign language interpreter in Maryland) are looking for news from local RID chapters, interesting interpreter biographies, resource reviews, interpreter program information, and forum participation. The website audience is new and aspiring sign language interpreters and students of ASL. Students and new interpreters have questions about getting into the interpreter business, so perspectives from experienced interpreters are appreciated.

Information that could be contained in a biography would be items like: Why did you choose to become an interpreter, and what training did you go through? Subjects could share their views on the program of study they participated in. Forum topics that new and aspiring interpreters are interested in will typically relate to getting business as an interpreter: how do you find a job, how much does a freelancer charge, who pays in different situations, and questions relating to the different agencies currently looking for interpreters.

The Biondo-Smiths are offering to assist the smaller, local RID chapters with their promotion efforts by providing free space on the web server and a free content-management system. "This would be similar to the system I use to post news stories", says Matt, "Keeping up with content is the most time-consuming part of being a webmaster. Providing a template for posting news and events could cut down on the headaches associated with maintaining a chapter site." The forthcoming partnerships that Biondo-Smith sees forming between Sign Link, Inc and the local RID chapters will help Sign Link, Inc complete their mission: to serve professional interpreters and other students of ASL by providing unique resources and facilitating personal development.
