Here is a link to Medicare Information. In our area (Tennessee) most of the long tern care funds go to nursing home care and very, very little to home and community based care.

Another problen we have seen is Medicare only providing medical services in the home and not the much needed attendant care. Add to that another problem: the homebound rule. If a person leaves the house once or twice a month for any reason they say the person is not homebound and not eligible for service. Life is a beach!

On the positive side, there is hope in the future for national home attandant care. And in Tennessee, a new home and community based care program is being started through the Area Agency on Ageing. It doesn't offer much yet but it is a start. You might call a Center for Independent Living in your area are call us at 1 731 668-2211.

If anyone has additional info on Medicare benefits, please post.
