Subject: dramatic solar activity

Wow,
I`ve been watching the recet solar storms...

Looks like there have been two massive coranal ejections,
causing a geomagnetic storm rated at level G5, the highest possible.
The first cloud of charged particles, a coronal mass ejection that accompanied a solar flare, left the Sun at about 6 a.m. EST Tuesday; and reached the Earth around 1 a.m. EST Wednesday.
The second storm reached the Earth's magnetic field around 10 a.m. EST Thursday. Forecasters said the onslaught would continue for at least 24 hours, with the potential to damage more satellites and hamper communication systems on the ground.
Although unusual, the events are not beyond the bounds of 'normal' solar activity.

A few satelites were however affected;
The Smart-1 mission, spiralling its way to the Moon, has suffered some disruption of its 'ion' engine. The engine was later restarted...
But, two Japanese satellites malfunctioned and work had to stop on a Norwegian highway that relied on satellite positioning.
