GC Dancers will be performing in front of Irish Classics at 88 Dunn Street, just south of Lakeshore, west of Trafalgar.
We dance at 7:00, 8:30 and 10:00. Dancers must contact Barb about performing. You may not just show up and expect to be in the show.
Dancers performing must pick up an outfit from Barb this week. Dancers must arrive no later than 6:00 pm in Wigs and tights. Bring lots of pins for adjustments to skirts and tops.

The Windsor Branch of Goggin-Carroll is Hosting the Windsor Feis/Rose City Feis on Saturday, August 16th. We would love to have Oakville dancers supporting the Windsor Feis just as the Windsor Dancers always fully support the Oakville Feis. As a result the OIDA is organizing another bus trip – this time to Windsor for the Rose City Feis. The Feis will be taking place on Saturday August 16, 2008. The bus will be leaving Oakville at 2:00 p.m. on Friday August 15th and will be set to return on Saturday after the dancers are finished (leaving Windsor around 6:00 p.m.). Tickets are $20 per seat and this price includes return transport by coach plus an equal share toward the driver's expenses (hotel, meals and tip). Hotel accommodation is extra.
There is the option to stay at the St. Clair College Residence & Conference Centre which is a 2-5 min. walk to the venue. They are offering a feis rate of $74.95 per suite which includes a complimentary continental breakfast. Each suite consists of two bedrooms featuring double beds, small kitchenette and private 3 piece bath so sharing is an option. You will be responsible for booking you own room. When you call mention the Rose City Feis to receive the rate. The OIDA has been in touch with St. Clair College Residence & Conference Centre and they will be able to accommodate us (but have suggested to make reservations sooner rather than later). The bus will be parked at this location which is also conveniently located near restaurants for dinner when we arrive.

Dancers from EVERY LEVEL are welcome to sign up for this trip. There are 56 seats available on the coach. You are asked to please RSVP Tara Lee (tara_lee@rogers.com) to book your spot. Please include the name of each person as well as a contact phone number. To reserve seats a cheque for the total amount of seats requested is required. Cheques can be placed in the mailbox in the kitchen area of the studio. The cheque can be posted dated to no later than August 1st. If you need to cancel and we are without a wait-list, you will need to find someone else to take your booking (and submit a new cheque).

Yesterday was the last GC bingo! Lina and I would like take this opportunity to thank those of you who have come out and volunteered your time. We would especially like to acknowledge all the hard work and organization that Anne-Marie Doherty put in for many years. It was with the wonderful foundation she put in place that made our work easier!
The OIDA is working hard on identifying alternative fund-raising initiatives. Our goal is to provide different volunteer opportunities so that families can contribute at the level that fits them best. We also want to continue to foster the community feel and spirit that we have in our school. As always, everything we do is to benefit all the dancers at every level in GC!

Its part of a street festival and can be a lovey day as you can walk through town and get food, entertainment when you have a break

The St. Catharines Feis is held on Saturday July 26th at Brock University in the airconditioned Sports Complex. This is the same weekend that we are hosting a bus trip to Washington for the Nation's Capital Feis. There will still be LOTS of GC Dancers attending the St. Catharines Feis but their may not be a teacher present.

The Feis at the Falls is held just across the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls NY. Its on Saturday August 9th and is well organized. In the past many of us have finished up early and then taken in a day at the falls.

The Windsor Feis may be a bit of a distance to travel, but this feis is hosted by the GC location in Windsor and its a big one. Lots of dancers from the Mid West States will attend and it gets you to a whole new group of competitors.

Finally for the summer.....Oakville Feis.....hosted by US! We will probably be asking many of you to volunteer some time during the day but make sure you enter this one! Entry forms are at the studio and remember, at this one, your entry fee will be paid for by the Bingo Funds Raised by the OIDA. Remember that you need to attend to have your fees paid.

- End of Spring Classes – Start of Summer Session -- Barb, 13:12:03 06/09/08 Mon
The Springs Session of dance will end on Saturday, June 28th. If your dancer registered only for the Spring Session, this will be their final class. The Summer Session begins on Monday, July 7th. Those dancers who included summer lesson in their last fees may attend as often as they wish thought the seven week session. If you have not registered for summer but still wish to, it’s not too late. You can either pay the Summer Session fee, or pay a drop in fee each time you attend classes. If you are unsure if you paid for summer, see Barb.Dancers who register for summer lessons may attend all three classes each week offered in their level. Email Barb for the schedule of classes.
Summer classes are offer for seven weeks through July and August starting Monday, July 7th and ending on Thursday, August 21st, just before the Oakville Feis! Dancers who wish to compete in July, August and September are required to attend classes through the summer months either by registering for the session or attending a minimum of 4 drop in classes. If you have questions about the summer schedule or your dancer’s level, please speak to Barb. This schedule does not start until Monday, July 7th.

I should have most of the Spirit Wear arrive at my house tomorrow. The dress and duffle bags are the questionable items and I am doing my best to get them by tomorrow or early next week.
Windsor Orders - My plan is to package the orders and take them to the Etobicoke Feis on Saturday. I will work with Barb to make sure the orders get to those who have ordered.
Oakville Orders - I will be at the studio with orders ready for pick up on the following dates and times.
Mon Jun 16th - 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 to 8:15 p.m.
Tues Jun 17th - 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Wed Jun 18th - 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Thurs Jun 19th - 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Thanks to everyone for being so considerate of Sean's adherence to the confidentiality agreement with So You Think You Can Dance Canada. I know some of you have been very curious about his audition process, but he had agreed not to share information until it was known if he had made the show. Those that do are not allowed to share the news with very many people.
Unfortunately, he will not be part of the Top 20 group for the show this year. He did enjoy a terrific experience, and had the opportunity to work with some amazing choreographers and met some great new dance friends.
To break it down a bit, the magic of television has us believe that you walk in off of the street and dance for a panel of celebrity judges. In actuality, it is broken down into several segments, over several extremely long days prior to that, and Sean advanced through all of the 'pre-judging' rounds with the show's producers to have the opportunity to dance for the judges and then advanced to the choreography round before he was cut. The amount of dancers to make it past the choreography round is approx. 2% of the original auditioning dancers. (Obviously if you are familiar with the show, all of this makes more sense!)
The absolute highlight of his experience was to be judged by Dan Karaty and Mary Murphy and to accept their feedback.
Dan Karaty commented on Sean's impeccable rythym.
Mary Murphy was very impressed by his dancing, and called his routine "MIND-BLOWING". Wow!
He also spent a good portion of an afternoon, with 6 other dancers, travelling to locations throughout Toronto with a producer and film crew. They were taped dancing, while featuring some of Toronto's landmarks for the show.
Hopefully some of his footage ends up on the program, but I guess we'll have to wait until this fall when it airs to find out!
Thanks for all of the good wishes and it meant a great deal to him to know he had a whole dance school of friends routing for him.
