Calling all Bakers( and buyers)-Treats needed for the Oakville Feis ... -- Laura and Anne, 09:04:07 08/12/09 Wed
Homemade and purchased baked goods and treats are needed for the Oakville Feis. We require a large assortment of baked goods to sell in the Tea Room at our Feis on Saturday, August 29th. Any donations should be portioned and individually wrapped for sale. Ideally portions should be appropriate for $1 sale price. Baked goods can be delivered to the venue on Friday August 28th from 6-9pm or before 8:00am on the day of the feis. Thanks for your support of our feis! Questions? Dear Teacher,
Please find below some updates on the Great Britain Championships, plus a copy of the latest version of the Syllabus (attached) which corrects one or two typographical errors.

Update No 4:
The Great Britain booking line is still open and will remain so until all available accommodation is booked. Booking levels specific to our event are again close to the 3000 level, however at present the following accommodation is still available:
40 silver double rooms 40 twin rooms.
28 silver self catering apartments that sleep 7 guests
The Shoreline we have 25 Columbus rooms
The Ocean we have 30 rooms that sleep up to 5 people
Please note that the camp is open to the public as last year.
The Ocean Hotel is now open to the public and is getting rave reviews. Please look this up on either www.greatbritainchampionships.com or www.butlins.com
Update No 5:
With the summer holidays coming to an end we would like to remind all teachers that the syllabus has now been issued for this years event.
The closing date for this years entry is 18th September. Late entries will be accepted up until 22nd September, but are subject to double fees.
For those dancers staying off site please ensure this is indicated on the official entry form. Failure to do so will mean dancers having to pay the on site facility fee.
In addition any teacher or adjudicator staying off site should indicate this on the official entry form.
Please note this is the one and only opportunity that dancers, teachers and adjudicators will have to ensure they do apply for dispensation against the site facility fee.

I have four lounge passes for giveaway. The user must have an outbound boarding pass on air canada or air canada jazz. Good only in lounges in Canada or the London Heathrow arrivals lounge (with an Air Canada arrivals boarding pass).
I don't need them because I have a frequent flyer card - these are for guests.

There are NO regular classes the week of August 3 to 7. All classes resume the following week (August 10) and continue to August 27th (up to the Oakville Feis).
Three weeks in July and three weeks in August give you your six weeks of summer lessons.

There weren't many of us there today (especially after an exhausting national) but the die hards were there....myself included.
Isabella Simms won her second first today! WTG. Very excited and a great sash for the win!
Hayley Pereiah took 2nd in her Open Championships! Great sash for her.
MacKenzie took 2nd in her preliminary. Another 2nd Place sash to add to her collection of Second Place Sashes....LOL....no other sash other than second.
Emily Keane took her FIRST 1st Place win in Prelim. Took home a first place sash and another win in her Set. WTG Emily!
Rochelle McAdam took 2nd and Sarah Weese took 3rd, and a sash for each of them in the PC Under 16! A great result for the girls.
It was sashes all around for our girls today! Small in numbers but great success.
I didn't see many of the dancers from Novice or Open so PLEASE post your results here!

Well, day one went well with soft shoe dances finished and ready to drill. Great work to all the dancers!
Remember to soak your feet in Icy COLD water at the end of your sessions. It will help for the next day. Hot water is only going to keep your feet soft and sore in the long run.
Ready for day two.....Hardshoe! Remember review class tonight is Reels 7:00 - 8:30 and Slip Jigs 8:30 - 10:00.

Just got back from Irish Dance Camp in beautiful British Columbia. We dance 6 - 8 everyday, once in the morning and once at night. By the time we finished dancing in the morning it was 35 - 36 degrees, night time was not so hard because the temperatures dropped right off. Everyday was sunny except for the last day when we were getting ready for the show. Thunderstorms moved in just after lunch and for 3 hours we had a down pour. During the afternoon we could either go white water rafting, rock climbing, float trip or just rest our tired bodies. They usually have kayaking but the waters were too high and fast so they didn't do this year.
The warmup/stretch was really tough. By the end you were just soaked with sweat. Then you danced. I was given the mens novice reel(which I did for the show), the hornpipe, the celtic fire. I almost had the hornpipe, but I needed one more day. The novice reel the only thing that was not working was the back clicks. I have the mechanics of it down. I also went for a 10 mile run except for the last 2 days and I was just too tired.
It just was a fantastic time all around and a lot of hard work.

Ryan's Germany Trip Part One -- Ryan, 04:58:01 07/10/09 Fri
I arrived very early this morning into Frankfurt. After a shower and a delicious (healthy) breakfast at the new Lufthansa arrivals lounge, I hopped on the train into the city, then walked to my hotel (yes I booked one in advance). I pre-paid a two-night stay at The Pure for a great rate at hotels.ca and was looking forward to experiencing that hotel. The receptionist greeted me with a surprise.
I was offered an upgrade from their four-star hotel room to their brand new five-star property not too far away at no additional cost. Being a new hotel (there is still some minor maintainance going on) they want people in the rooms to test out the experience. I accepted.
I was driven by their personal driver in an Alfa Romeo with leather interior to match my new brown shoes from Nashville. I was asked for my first impression when we walked into the lobby and all I could muster was "wow!".
The room suits me to a tee...stylish minimalism. There is a state-of-the-art spa too. Check it out at www.roomers.eu
On Sunday, I will travel to Dresden where I will be attending a language school for three weeks in case you are wondering where I am.

- Stage Building going smoothly! With 20 volunteers there today including 3 youth and about 6 new Dads, it was going incredibly well when I (Suzanne) left at noon - they're at least 2/3's of the way through the job. Best of luck to our 60 dancers headed to Nationals. They are representing our school in Solos and Teams. Results should be posted here each day for those of you intersted in keeping track.
Last classes for National dancers are tonight. Teams from 5:30 - 7:00 (Blue jersey's required) and Solos from 7:00 - 9:30. Many dancers have already left and others heading out in the next two days. Safe Travels Everyone.
Because Nationals don't end until the 7th, most of us are returning the 8th or 9th. Summer Classes begin on MONDAY the 13th. Hope everyone is rested up and ready for a busy summer! See you then.

Please please please do not not send your dancers to class this week if they are not feeling well. Especially if they have a fever or are vomitting. While it is understandable that you don't want your child to miss practice time so close to Nationals, please remember that you could cause another dancer to MISS Nationals.

Lauren L was very proud to FINALLY score two 1st's in Novice hard shoe - just the hornpipe to go and she's a fully fledged Prizewinner. She also landed 1st in Slip Jig (Prizewinner) again - that's two feis in a row!!!

And we had dancers in the results at each including a few wins this weekend.
A big well done to the Windsor Seniors who danced with Leahy this evening. I believe it was videoed and we will try to let everyone see a copy of the performance.
