Summer Workshop for PC OC will be Sunday Aug 2nd - Friday August 7th. We encourage dancers to enter Lockport Feis to try out new steps. I will be attending Lockport to assess.
Sorry for it starting on the long weekend.
More info won't be for a while - we have to get through St Pat's and start planning for Nationals (entries will be due to us the third week of April). We want to give lots of notice for the dates.

Have a great time tonight whether you are in Windsor at the Pasta Night or Oakville at the Cladagh Ball. Remember, its about celebrating the success of our dancers as they prepare for the Worlds.
GC is sending 36 dancers for both teams and solos at this year's worlds. What a brilliant accomplishment and what great nights have been planned for both locations.
Nice to have Ben in Oakville to celebrate with us. It would be great if one year the celebrations could include all the worlds dancers in one location.
Lets raise a toast to all!

If you have not received form regarding GC's annual school feis they are at the studio in the kitchen area. Beginner and advanced beginner forms are on the table and novice, open and prelim forms have been posted on the board.

Just a reminder that the Advanced Beginner and Novice classes will not be held on Saturday due to the MW Feis.
Saturday beginner classes are on as usual. Janet will be teaching the 9:30 beginner 1 class.
For those interested in attending but not entered, we encourage you to attend to see what the feis is all about and to pick up supplies from the vendors.
The Feis is being held from 9:00 - 4:00 at the International Centre, Airport Road in Misssissauga.

- GC School Feis - March 28th -- The OIDA, 14:36:23 02/20/09 Fri
Mark your calendars folks! The annual GC School Feis will be on March 28th at the Knights of Columbus Hall (1494 Wallace Road Oakville). Come out and join us for a great time - invite family and friends! For our newer dancers this is a perfect opportunity to dance on a stage in a supportive and fun environment. It's also a great chance to watch other dancers at different levels that you may not always get to see. This is the only feis in the year where you are allowed (and encouraged) to take pictures and video of your dancer.
This year we are offering an AB/Nov/PW Charity Freestyle Treble Reel along with the PC/OC Charity Freestyle Treble Reel. Dancers are to make up 16 bars of choreography and can be performed in groups or on their own - be as creative as you like. To particpate in this competition there will be a fee of $5.00 to be paid on the day (do not submit fee with registration please). All proceeds raised from this fun event will go to the Fairshare Foodbank in time for Easter.
Distribution of the syllabus will begin next week. If you are unsure of which dances to enter the teachers will be happy to assist you. Cheques are to be made payable to the OIDA and can be left in the mailbox located in the waiting area of the studio.
For those who would like to help out a volunteer sign-up sheet will be posted at the studio. Its a fun time and a great way to get to know other parents in the GC community.
Please note that we are aware that the new Cornwall feis is taking place on this weekend. We will be mindful of this when we schedule next year's event and we appreciate your understanding.
We look forward to seeing you on the 28th!

The OIDA would like to invite our GC families and friends to join our World's families at the annual Claddagh Ball being held on Saturday March 7, 2009 at the Burlington Convention Centre. This special evening is a fundraising event in support of our dancers who have qualified for and will be attending the World Irish Dance Championships that are being help in Philadelphia in April 2009. This evening is designed to be a night of friendship and fun and is a great way to feel part of the Goggin Carroll family. Tickets for the Ball are $65.00 per person and include a beautiful 3 course dinner with wine, a incredible DJ for dancing the night away and an amazing silent auction that is sure to have something for everyone! These are the flexible black sole bottoms with sound blaster glass squared off tips. Decent foot bed and soles. All that's needed is just a bit of polish needed before your next feis. I am looking forward to welcoming those of you taking the bus down to the Broesler Feis to New Jersey(as well as anyone travelling down on their own). Just a couple of notes..competitor numbers will be available Friday night from 7-9pm in the ballroom area..also, dont forget to get your tickets for our fabulous raffle that includes a custom Gavin Doherty dress, new Fays hard shoes, socks, new wig and a Kelso Covers dress bag. It might be a good idea to arrange a pick up for the friends for about 8:30. You don't have to but I would imagine they'd get bored by then. We will try to cover hard and soft by then so they can see ALL of what you do.

Ho! Ho! Ho! This is just a quick reminder that the GC Christmas Party will be held on Dec. 17th at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Wallace starting at 6:30 p.m. Come join us for an evening full of Christmas Cheer and there just might be something under the tree for our dancers! Refreshments, pizza and desserts will be served and there will be a cash bar.
Dancers are asked to bring their soft shoes and wear something appropriate for dancing in. Each class will do a dance!
Christmas baking donations are always welcome and we ask that everyone bring a non-perishable food item that we will donate to the Oakville Food Bank.
As space is limited we ask that only immediate family members attend this event (dancers, parents and siblings only please).

Greetings everyone.
The Syllabus for the Mary Woodgate Feis is now posted at www.peelirish.com and on-line entries are now live with mailed in payment. You should note that entries are not considered final until payment is received. We have reached our cap every year and despite raising the cap this year we expect that we may have to turn away dancers once again.
We have been working to finalized adjudicators and musicians and will post the final list of names when they are known. Valerie Westernacher has set up the on-line registration and will be tabulating the results for us this year.
We have a new venue this year and will be making some other exciting announcements regarding sashes, awards, etc. in the near future as details are finalized.
The new venue is the International Centre and we have raised our cap to 800. The site boasts free parking and there should be plenty of space to host the event.
Please note that we have moved to a family fee of $15 this year. No entries will be accepted without this family fee with one exception. Dancers that are over 18 and the only dancer in the family are exempt from the fee. We are trying this option this year in the hopes of addressing some concerns raised about feiseanna that have a family fee.

I am sure many of you will join me in congratulating Cecily Charlton who just passed her TCRG examinations. For those of you who have not participated in summer workshop with Frances and the Girls from McGahan Lees, Cecily is one of the seniors who Won the World Championships this past year and now has gone on to pass her teaching examinations. As many of our dancer know, she was already a brilliant instructor and dancer, but now she has the certification to prove it to all! Well Done Cecily. We couldn't be prouder.

We are pleased to report that the OIDA has approved a bus trip to the Broesler Feis taking place on January 24, 2009. We are in the process of making arrangements for a bus and trying to secure a block of rooms at a nearby hotel. More details regarding cost, time of departure etc will be posted once they are known. In the meantime, a sign-up sheet will be posted at the studio starting Monday for those that are interested in going. As many of you know from past experience we have a great time on these trips. It's also a wonderful opportunity for dancers to get to know each other regardless of age or level. As always this event is open to all dancers.

The Oakville Irish Dance Association (OIDA) is the fund raising and special event association of the Goggin-Carroll School. Please take the time to read them. I am sending them out online and will have hard copies at the hall for handing out but would like to cut back on them not getting to parents, being left in the change room and millions of questions asked that could be answered if you just read the letter!

The meeting will be held at the studio and will start at 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided by the OIDA and we will have a movie for the kids (dancers and siblings invited)!
