Subject: Major William "Pawnee Bill" Carpenter

Does anyone in your organization remember my uncle, William Richard Carpenter. He was assigned to the Hq. 1st Battlion 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment. I have information that he jumped near Groesbeek Heights Holland during Market Garden and was awarded the British Military Cross by Montgomery for gallantry on September 19, 1944.
In 1980 while doing research in Holland,I met a priest at St Antonious "Klein America" in Groesbeek.
I would like to communicate with anyone who knows more.
Uncle Bill was loss in the Rhine River near Koln Germany on April 12, 1945. Major General,James M.Gavin was his commander.
