I think the photo you are talking about is of stick number 12, 505th Pathfinders. It was taken at North Witham on 5 June, 1944 prior to taking off for Normandy.

These guys marked Drop Zone "O" near Ste. Mere Eglise so that the troop carrier elements (the Aircraft) carrying the rest of the 505th could find it.

If this is the photo you were talking about I would very much like to speak with you about your father. Feel free to contact me off line.

Also the third man from the right in the back row. wearing the knit "jeep" cap, is Bob Murphy. He was president of the 82nd Airborne Association and also of the 505th PIR Association. He currently lives on the Eastern Seaboard and I have contact information for him. He may be able to help you in your quest for information.
