The reason what happened to Dru was such a tragedy was because it was so inhuman and permanent, driving someone to madness and then cursing them with eternal life. Not to mention the fact that Dru had visions before she was even turned, which implies that she had been chosen by the Powers That Be in a similar way to how Doyle was (and later Cordelia). The real tragedy was that she never even had an opportunity to realize that gift for its original intention, and if some sort of phlebotinum could reverse that then I think it would cheapen the effect it has on Angel in his desire to atone for his sins.

I think it would be like bringing Tara back from the dead. Yes, it would be nice to have her back, but if she were put through the revolving door of death and resurrection like others in the 'verse have gone through, then it would cheapen the change Willow went through afterwards.
