Subject: WTtHM/The Harvest question

I'm not sure if I've asked this before or not. Why would The Master want to bring back the Old Ones if they pretty much hate vampires and look down on them? I can see the part about getting out of where he was trapped, but the other part about opening the portal 'to hell'(did that mean hell dimension?) was confusing because it seemed like he would just be orchestrating his own death and all his kind's deaths.

And looking down on specific vampires who are either especially powerful or especially useful.

agreeing with AW here about that. It never made sense.

...that was the first ever ep of the series and maybe it can be blamed on not having had the development later stuff did, like after Illyria and everything.

Considering they were NOT pure demons.

What we actually saw was that a lot of demons who weren't true "Old Ones" generally looked down on vampires. This is very different, however, from looking down on, for example, Angelus. It didn't appear that the non Old-One demons generally looked down on Angelus. At least not anywhere where he could hear them...

Illyria is the only "Old One" that we really got to see for any length of time. She does consider vampires to be lesser beings. Of course, she basically considers anyone who isn't herself to be a lesser being. And she does seem to genuinely value Knox for bringing her back to the world.

...Said he was the lowest of all the halfbreeds and ect ect but then again, they looked down on everyone but themselves...

Because the Old Ones the Master was looking for lived under the Hellmouth, while Illyria and her crew were buried in the Deeper Well for a gazillion billion years. Then again, the Master was kind of an egomaniac - I'll bet it didn't even occur to him the Old Ones would think he was some kind of vermin. He probably figured the lesser vamps would be eliminated while he'd be welcomed with open....ACK!...*dust settles gently*...
