We do ask that each participant be kind, no use of profanity, and remember this is a place to enjoy...communicate...and love those Boxers!!! Feel free to attack the tough issues, just not each other! We want to address controversial issues on this board. Communication brings about informed ownership, and a better relationship with our Boxers. So sound off! This board is also open to questions, funny stories, sad stories, and most things Boxer.

Does anyone know where the Boxer Nationals is going to be held in 2007? I have been looking on line an can't find anything on it? I think Rob and I are going to go next year. It sounds so awesome!!!

I'm sorry that I didn't get anything posted sooner. I just got back home this afternoon; been gone since 4:45am Monday morning.

The surgery went well, and didn't take as long as expected. He starting to wake up really fast, which sometimes is good/sometimes not. My dad is a very anxious person, so when he began to wake up and was still on the repirator, etc., I think he freaked out a little. I'm sure I would have, too. Anyway, we asked the doctor to "knock" him out for the night. The next morning, the repirator was removed and he had his first post surgery walk. We thought he would be moved from the Cardio Vascular Recovery Unit yestereday, but he still wasn't eating. Then last night, his oxygen level dropped to 74, so he's still on a 12 liters of oxygen and they won't move him to the floor until it's down to 6. So, it's a wait and see game. Otherwise he's fine. Hasn't had anything for pain since very early this morning and is eating well. We're hoping he'll be moved to a room on the floor tomorrow so we can see him more often. I think not being allowed to have company but every 2 hours for 20 minutes has a lot to do with his recovery. He wants us with him.

So, thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers, and I will keep you updated.

hi all, so today Tigs had another ECG and saw her vet for her heart issues. she has been on the meds for one week and there is no improvement. I am so bummed. she is still throwing a huge number of the VPC'S and the meds have not helped one bit. so he will call the cardilogist and see what she say's about an increase. he said most likely an increase of the sotalol to 80 megs twice a day. that is a lot of betapace but if it helps her arythmia I am all for doing what needs to be done to keep my precious going. I just found a place on line in Florida where I can get 100 tabs for 24.00 so I am thrilled about that... vs 80.00 for 60...

Anyhow I will keep you all posted. continue the prayers for this ol gal:):)

I think I posted a week or so ago about my dad having a heart catherization. I've been busy since, and haven't had a lot of computer time.

During the procedure, it was determined that he has a 70% blocked artery. The blockage is in the main artery from the heart to the body, at the exact point where the artery and heart connect. Per the surgeon, it is in the most dangerous place a blockage can be. On Monday morning, December 11 at 6:00, my dad will have open heart surgery. They will do a bypass vs. a balloon or stint due to the location. A balloon or stint, should they ever move, could cause him to have a massive heart attack. The surgeon has assured us that although the location is bad, the procedure to correct the blockage is the least dangerous of procedures. I guess that would make me feel better if it weren't my dad. I think the operation will take about 4 hours. He will be in cardiac ICU for 24 hours, then in a regular room for 4-5 more days. Most likely he will be home about a week before Christmas Eve.

Anyway, I would surely would appreciate your thoughts, prayers, etc., on Monday - for my dad, and my mom. She's always been the one going through procedures, and she's not handling being on the other side very well. And....if you have some good thoughts left over, I wouldn't mind you sending some of them my way, as well. A daddy's girl I've always been. I'm scared to death, but neiher he nor my mom know how frightened I am. Gotta stay tough for them.

To make this somewhat Boxer related, Butler will be staying with Dr. Alexander beginning at 6:00 Sunday evening. He loves it there, so there he will be until we know my dad will be OK. The hospital is about an hour from my house, so there's no way I could run home to check on him.

I know that I will not have access to a computer for several days after the surgery, so I will try to call Lisa, if she doesn't mind, and she can post an update for me.

As of yesterday, my old work addy that starts with gyezefs1 will not work. I am no longer employed there. My home addy works, some of the time.... having a lot of shutdowns and loss of connectivity...... drives me nuts. The home addy starts with pggzyski . I will try to check it more often.... as I have been very bad in checking home mail in the past.

My six year old grandson was hit by a truck pulling a load of firewood yesterday afternoon and flown by helicopter to Children's Hospital in Cincinnati. I never want to be that afraid again ever. Though injured, he is one lucky little boy to have survived this incident. He has a lump on his head, a swollen arm, road rash, and a horrible laceration that laid open his entire thigh nearly to the bone. A terrifying experience. Healing prayers from those who matter would mean a lot to me. He had reconstructive surgery on his leg over night and I've been awake most of the night. Just couldn't gear myself down after the emotions of it all. I'm just so THANKFUL of this outcome.

My life has been otherwise hectic, so I apologize for my absence. Working a new job, learning new software, had to take some training to assist with a procedure in the medical office, meeting myself coming in and out the door or so it seems.

Molly had another lump off this past Friday, she is doing well post surgery.

I bought a baby gift today - this lil guy is the 3rd boy with two older brothers. Along with a "guy" outfit I included a book. It's SO cute, a real "male humor" book (thought his two big brothers could read it to him in a year or two).
"Walter the Farting Dog" is about a mutt rescued from a pound and how he stinks.....they try everything from bathing to food changes and just when the grown-ups have HAD IT " this dog is going back to the pound!!!" - he saves the family from being burglarized by one GIANT fart.

Today is the day.......
Lulu will be going to a veterinary ophthalmologist this afternoon. It's the same doc that saw her when she was in foster care (with us). She was diagnosed with juvenile cataracts.
During the time (nearly 2 years!) she's been with us, I've educated myself a lot more about her situation - also been saving money for "maybe".
Lulabelle has a great life, no pain, is loved and spoiled. Some of the side effects of cataract removal and intraocular lens implantation are glaucoma and uveitis......both of which are VERY painful, hard to control, require eye meds several times a day and often end up with the dog having the eyes removed.
We'll see what the vet has to say today......what kind of percentages she gives for a good result w/no eye disease down the road.
Her appointment is later today - I'll post when we get back.

Oh Lord. I can't beleive this. My sweet old gal was stumbeling around this morning and her back legs started to give out on her and she wasn't acting right, very lethargic and out of it. We assumed it was her arthritis so I rushed her to the vet this morning.

He doesn't think its her spine issue but her heart. I am so scared right now. he heard a pretty significant arythmia on her heart exam through a stethascope and noticed her breathing was rapid and her pulse was weak. she has never had an arythmia before only a murmur...I am so frantic right now. he doing an EKG and a chest x ray right now to see if she has CM. He is very suspicios that she does. Please pray for her. Once he gets the EKG reading he is faxing it to a cardilogist for a reading and he is hoping we will have the reults today. He also noted her gums were pale. poor tiggy. Her 11th birthday is happening at the end of the month and I pray she makes it to see it. I will keep you posted, we need your prayers right now ever so badly. The best case scenario for her is that some medications may help her live out her last few months.... she is such a wonderful sweet precious girl that my heart is breaking.

I know I don't get on here as often as I would like, but I have so many friends here.

The news about Bill is bad, and there is no other way of saying this, I just wish there was. On Tuesday afternoon, Bill passed away. There is a post mortum this morning when I will find out why he died.

In some respects I feel it hasn't happened, but in another, I will never see my darling hubby again.

Rest in peace darling, you have had a really hard 10 years but the fight was just too long and too much.

Well guys Tomorrow is the big day where Tony goes to the Tennessee Teaching hospital for a full cardiology workup. I am so nervous about this apt and am dreading hearing any bad news about my sweet little boy.. I new exactly what I was getting into when I heard the news " heart murmur" so its not a surprise and it was my decision to keep him as you all know I could have returned him but I chose not to as I wanted to take it on no matter what the situation was and I have NO regrets as he brings me sooo much happiness and joy that is worth it all.....

Maybe if we all get together tonight and think REALLY good positive thoughts that Tony is going to be okay, than that would be much appreciated......

I really didn't want to go to this apt but as you know my vet said I really need to go and he said hopefully there is a medication that can help him if he needs it.

I am frightened beyond belief and will just be devastated if they tell me bad news..............

so let us all PRAY and chant that this sweetie will live a long happy life:):) He so deserves it as he is the most wonderful boxer boy I have EVER known...........

He is the BEST cuddler I have ever had as each morning he climbs up in my lap in the recliner and snuggles in for hours on end and gives kisses and hugs to everyone he meets, he is simply a gem!

my apt is at Noon but its an all day thing, and a long drive so I will post as soon as I get home, which will be pretty late.

Thank you all soooo much for your positive thinking hopefully this murmur is not going to be a problem for him, I am so hopeful and am thinking nothing but good thoughts myself!!!!!

My nephew called me yesterday evening and told me he was at my favorite thrift store and he found a picture of a Boxer and wondered if I wanted it. I told him to "hide" it behind the rest of the pictures and I would go by in the morning. Well, went this morning and sure enough it was still there and I absolutely LOVE this picture. I did not do a great job of taking a picture of it but Bonnie is a gorgeous girl. Does anyone have any ideas about how I can find out who Bonnie is? I looked on the AKC and ABC sites but saw no way to look up a dog by name. I'd love to know more about her. I'm guessing the photo is probably 50 or more years old. There was a tag on the paper backing from the art gallery that framed it in Oklahoma City (Harbour-Longmire Art Galleries) but I couldn't find a listing for them. I thought about sending it to the Boxer Rescue folks for their auction but the longer it hangs on my wall the more I love it!! Thoughts anyone????

It's official that Butler is REALLY a pig. He weighs between 83-85lbs. Not sure which; he wouldn't be still.

I know that is way too much for him; just not sure what to do about it. He eats 3 cups of food/day and still thinks he's starving. He punches his dish; scratches the pantry door. If that doesn't work, he punches the frig with his nose. It's awful. I can't change his food to a low-cal because of his tummy issues. I just now got him back on track after trying to switch flavors.

Any ideas? At least he doesn't wear clothes to have outgrown. LOL

NorCal Boxer Rescue (which I volunteer for) is in financial distress.
We have three kids (all at the same time) that need financial help for surgical intervention.
Johnney has been in foster care for awhile as we try to raise funds for a cruciate ligament repair - TPLO (Mack knows all about that - he's had two of them and they're expensive).
Angie/Angel was attacked by a Pitbull in her home and has been "ripped to shreds" - she has needed to have a leg amputated after vet care could not save it. She has undergone many procedures and has been a typical sweet Boxer - not attacking the caregivers.....whining and biting the air as she is treated.
Margie was dumped at a shelter with multiple fractures in a femur.....left in a shelter for 5 days with that injury before we could pull her.....maybe, just maybe an owner might come looking for her. No such luck.
All of these dogs are being helped by NorCal Boxer Rescue - their vet bills will far exceed their adoption fees if and when that happens.
These kids need financial help - they have probably generated close to $7000 worth of vet bills - when healed and put up for adoption, the fees asked by NCBR will be $870.
If you have anything to contribute towards their care......they will reward you with cyber kidneybeans, cyber body slams and many, many cyber-slurpy Boxer kisses.

Gary just wondering if you have an update on Zack. I had no idea he was getting tumors on his foot, you must have forgotten to tell us and I am sorry that he needs another operation I didn't know you were going through this with him. its so scary. especially at his age.. I feel for you are these tumnors cancer?. Just wondering how he is doing and if you are going to be able to do the surgery. Did you ask your cardiologist about the 24 hour holter monitor? Its the only way your going to find out if he is have the "runs" of the VPC'S, Since they can't find them by doing the sonogram. I know they chare an arm and a leg for the equipment but there is a cheaper place to rent one on line, I can send you the info if you want, I Just have to find it I think I have it somewhere.

Anyhow, keeping Zack in my thoughts, Please post to us and keep us in the loop on his condition as we are all worrried and concerned about him and about you.

Well its time for me to neuter Tony. I Am slowly seeing him becoming a dominant little boy, and he has slightly began fighting with the girls ( on occasion). I am going to neuter him next week, we are 6 weks shy of a year old so its time. He is big enough now and really filling out so we are ready to move forward with the neuter ( snip, snip).

Plus he has an ugly wart that also will be taken off on his knee. its a real wart and is as ugly as sin.

The fighting is started by his sisters, not by him, but he doesn' take it either and it gets ugly.

Its ALWAYS over a toy and mostly with Tigs, she is one crochety old lady and so pretective of her frisbee but HE IS pretty pushy with her and does act pretty obnioxsly. it is always over that damn frisbee of her's. With the Bean, its more of her just being a brat over a toy and trying to be competitive with him she also fence fights with the neighbors dogs and than wil lattack tony for no reason when she is stressed over the neighbors dogs. we DON'T tolerate fighting and nip it immediatly and they do stop, its never gotten to the point of anyone getting hurt but I still won't allow dogs to fight in my home. Tony is not a fighter but he is getting big and the testosterone is flowing big time so I want to nip this.

So I called the vet and inquired about his neutering. I was told its 350.00, can you believe that? what an insane price for a simple procedure done every day. First off, they want to do 125.00 worth of blood work to make sure he is medically fit for the operation, full blood work up needs to be done and that's 125.00, than he uses Laser which is always more, and they stitch him from the inside with suteres that will disolve, so that's more. So I use another vet that I also like and he charges 117.00 he is also great and is an internal medicine Dr so he is VERY skilled and smart. Big difference huh? he doesn't use Laser though and he doesn't use the Internal sutres but he does do the blood work but its 36.00 vs 125.00. So I have a call into my vet to see if Laser is really necesary and why he is soooo much more I am going to see if he will do it without Laser as its such a simple operation and shouldn't cost that much. I have to be careful with my money these days but I want to do the best for my kids and I trust both vets.... I have to use my money wisely as I have 3 boxers and you never know what's goign to come up, so I am careful...I will let you know what the vet says when he calls me today. Its not a matter of me being cheap or complaining about the price I just want to save my dough for other things that might come up with them medically.

Well I took Tigra to the vet on Monday and the vet tested her urine and discovered that she is not concentrating her urine. My vet has ran a bunch of test and we are still waiting for the results to come in. She also had a UTI so that could have been the cause of the bed wetting at night she had a high white blod count in her urine. She has only wet the bed 4-5 times and its happening about once a week and has not happened for about a week now.

He is suspecting she has the beggining stages of kidney failure. I am so crushed but trying not to worry until the test results are in ,but its so hard on me.

He suspects she could have cushing's disease, Addison's disease ir diabetes insepudus, or a rare condition that the brain is not telling her kidney's to concentrate the urine. if this is the cause it would be great as the treatment is very simple as I put some sort of eye drops in her mouth and it helps 100%, very weird and very rare and he has only seen 2 cases in 25 years. He suspects Renal failure as the number one cause and I am praying so hard its NOT that. He is off today, naturally so I have to wait one more day. He ran one blood test that showed her alkaline to be on the high side of normal and this would indicate cushings disease, but she has no other symptoms to warrent this so we just don't no yet what is going on with her kidney's. I pinned him against the wall so to speak and asked him point blank if the rimadyl I have had her on for the past 9 months could be a cause of this and he really doesn't think its the cause, as her blood test and kidney function were normal one month after being on the medication and usually if a dog is going to be have side effects from it, it will show up right away. He thinks its not from the rimadyl but who knows ,really. Her quailty of life has been so much better while on the medication so I do feel its been worth it, given she is not in daily pain and this has really helped her to have a good quality of life, but I just don't know for sure if its not from the medication. I may have to stop the medication now and we are going to talk about that at my next visit, there are some more test he wants to run where she will be in the office under going some blood terst ever hour to see how the kidney's are working so that will be next. So please keep this little old lady in your thoughts and prayers. she is so happy, loves her walks in the woods, still plays and runs with her bother and sister every day and can catch a frisbee like no one else in the pack, she is eating great and being her happy wonderful self so she is not suffering at all, and that's a good thing but I am so worried about her and her future, she is such a wonderful family member and I would hate to loose her.

I will keep you all posted on what the vet say's but we could use the good thoughts for her.

I have heard the most outlandish statements made on national news programs about the Amish since the horrorible shooting. Please don't judge this devout people because of the ignorance of outsiders. I even heard that some parents ouldn't let their children be taken to hospital by helicopter! Not true!!!!No they don't choose to fly but refuse help for their children Never!!! Some of the stuff I have been hearing is so ridiculous but if you don't know the truth of course you would believe anything. Thanks for letting me express my anger.

With much sadness Bubba Knows went to the Rainbow Bridge this pass Saturday while being a "guest" at Judy and Woody's home in Oxford.

Bubba came to me back in the days of Maine Boxer Rescue on July 28, 1999. He was approx. age 3 at the time. I was his 4th owner in those 3 short yrs. That figures to be a "new" owner every year, so he never learned to trust anyone of them. It took over 2 years to bring him forward, where he would not hide behide me.

We had some funny and serious setbacks during those early years together - like when the 55 gallon wood fire grill chased him down the runner sending him 10 feet into the air throwing him for a loop - the grand openning at the local Petco he bolted when the metal shelfing fell off the wall - and when one of the foster dogs decided after 3 weeks of being there at our home that he looked pretty good to eat almost riping his ears off. After these types of setbacks it took many months to rebuild his confidence.

With my secured leadership, I finally got him to the point where he went on to train and test for a therapy dog. I never gave up on him knowing with time he would be able to do this. Later he tested for the AKC CGC and passed. He was then used as the tester dog for both test, being able to remain calm while other dogs testing passed him within 4 to 6 feet.

He was known to many in the great Portland community, as John Wayne with his cowboy hat and scarf while visiting the nursing home. For 4 years, children flocked to him as they read their books to the "Listening Dog" at the local library. At the end of each Summer, a celebration at the library of Bubba's birthday drew more children and adults than a normal story hour. At the Iris Network (a group home for blind people), people would count the days and weeks until his next visit.

Last Fall when I returned to Maine for a short holiday visit, Bubba was needing to be around other people and dogs. I couldn't bare the thoughts of having him be up for adoption at his age. It would of been against all gains that I had made with him. Judy, Woody and the boys volunteered and agreed to let him live his time with them. I would call Judy about every 2 weeks or so and she would send pictures of him enjoying his new life. Judy says he was an excellant time keeper, letting her know when 9 PM came as it was his bedtime and the boys.

When I saw him in June and spent a few days a Judy's, we could tell his life was starting to go down hill to speak of. Some limited testing showed signs of erratic heartbeats - arrhythmia - cardiomyopathy. Both of us agreed that all the money in the world couldn't make his life change or be better. We promised to keep him happy and comfortable at the same time. I saw him in July and again in August, knowing his days were numbered, having good days, then bad one.

The good one I remember was at this years Petfest. We took him early to help set up our area. Nearly 2 hours later, when the PA system came on he was ready to head back home, looking for Judy's Dad's truck. He jumped into the frontseat waiting for the next trip back home.

When Judy called me this Saturday, we could hardly say words to each other. Bubba Knows made him journey to the Rainbow Bridge and will be buried with the other Dill family pets.

These dogs come to us for a need only we can give back to them. Their past is not important. It's what you're gonna give them for their future that is most important. As with many others, Bubba Knows has glabbed my heart and will be there forever. He could make you laugh and he could make you cry.

Kristi's surgery went fine. She went to the OR at 8:11 and the surgeon was speaking to us at 8:40. He only administered local anesthesia, so there was no danger to the baby. She was awake and talked to him the entire time. The mass was the size of a golf ball. After looking at it with the pathologist, both doctors feel it is 99.99% benign. We should have the final results on Monday.

My mom is very sore, in quite a bit of pain, but progressing as expected. She has a nurse come twice a week to draw blood, and a physical therapist everyday.

My sweet Tigs has began leaking urine while she sleeps. I have been accusing the boy and have realized it is Tigra who is leaking urine I have found some pee on the dog beds and thought it was Tony I am still not 100 percent sure who it is but I assume its Tigs. Last night she was laying with me on my bed and she got up suddenly and there was a large urine leakage on the bed. I feel so bad for her. I am going to take her to the vet once I figure out how often its happening to her. Old age is no fun.... she was so embarrassed and upset, we told her it was okay and to not worry about it. she has NEVER had an accident in the house since she was a baby so my heart goes out to her.

My mom had surgery Wednesday as scheduled, and the surgery went fine. However, she was given a pain med that SHOULD NOT have been given to her along with the maintenance meds she's already own. The drugs interacted, and reacted, causing her to stop breathing. The RN administered an opiat(sp) reversal which immediately brought her out from wherever she was. She was totally incoherent. I had not planned to spend the night, but was afraid to leave. My dad was totally freaked and his BP was HIGH!!!! He and I had planned to switch off 1/2 way through the night, but the machine he uses for sleep apnea (can't think of the name of it) stopped working, so I stayed awake all night and listened for both of them to breathe. I finally got home around 3:00pm on Thursday and was a ZOMBIE.....I went to work Friday and back to the hospital afterwards. She finally came home today, after running an extremely high temp for a few days. She seems to be fine, with the exception of being tired, and sore. I did file a complaint against two nurses and the surgeon with the hospital medical board. I am off work this week to help my dad as much as I can. Kristi's surgery is Wednesday, so we're just playing all this by ear.

Thanks for thinking of my mom - and being patient with me.

I found the coolest dog toy, its called a " Babble Ball" this little ball talks non stop and is so cool. Tony is beside himself with fun, he is loving this thing.

Lulu and I went for a walk this morning on a trail near the creek we often use. Soooo, we're walking along and come upon a hole in the ground with a rock over it. There are a few Yellow Jackets buzzing around a small hole the rock doesn't quite cover. Without thinking I used my foot to move the rock and completely cover the "way-out" of the nest. That was not a good thing to do.....Yellow Jackets are vindictive (I now know). There were just a few left outside the nest and they came after Lulu and me. She had a couple on her rump and I immediately shooed them away. Yellow Jackets will not stay "shooed". They came after my head and I was running down the trail brushing them out of my hair. I finally put up the hood of my sweatshirt and thought I'd foiled them - think again. I had captured one inside the hood, it got under my hair and got me. Man! That hurts!
Lulabelle has one quarter sized hive on her rump, I have one throbbing bump on my head and I will never mess with Yellow Jackets again and I also with have much more sympathy for people and critters that get stung.
I gave her a Benedryl and am watching her like a hawk - but it's been about an hour and a half ago and no symptoms other than the hive where she was stung (she's complaining wayyyy less than me!)
