I was at Kingswood in the late eighties. Our family can boast that we were the first family to have four boys in the school at the same time. I remember quite fondly some of the staff i.e Mr Harvey, Mr Hubbard, Mr Foley, Ms. Smith and I can't remember for the life of me what the carpentry masters name was, but who can forget his class above the toilets...I hated that place. Anyway, if anyone looks around here and remembers me, feel free to contact me.
Regards
Gareth Rogers
p.s. I am now living in sunny South Africa.

It's Ellis H Jones, not Edwin - and he, Mr Chris and 'Davvy' Davenport are still alive, amazing.

I was at KHS from 16 Sep 1968 to June 1974. I remember the following teachers: Mrs Bruce (scripture, music, English), Madame Gay (French), Mr Weare (maths, who gave us stamps from cigar tins), Mrs Davenport (geography), Mr Chris, W H Thorne (headmaster, English), the universally despised and loathed Mr Edwin H Jones (we used to throw things at his head), Derek France (English, art, history, guitar), Alan A. Procter (English, history, scripture), Mr Pollard, Mr Britten, Mrs Holmes (Latin), Mr Wilson (natural history, scripture), Mr Mike Robbins (English, history), Mr Anthony Baur (French), Jo Shearn the groundsman, Miss Collier (English), Mario the chef, The Matron Who Wore Red Knickers, Mr Yem, Mrs Stone, the teacher who got married in 74 and became Mrs Clark (English, drama), Mr Hubbard (judo), Mrs McLeary (swimming), Mr Whitaker (games) and the much missed John Strawson (English), who passed away before his time, in spring 1974, while still a teacher at KHS.

When I was 9 or 10, I used to smuggle pornography into KHS into the lining of my coat and me and Lord Auckland's son Robert sat at the back of the class in Maths, where we had a deal with Mr Weare that he would leave us alone.

I remember getting wacked by WHT and Mr Chris several times, and Mrs Bruce used to hit us with a hairbrush minus its hairs.

When I became a monitor I used to book people for crimes like running in the toilets. I left at the same time as W H Thorne.

It was better than Ewell Castle, where I ended up, and where the teachers were mostly deviants of some kind.

I am now studying space science at a top university and want to work for a major agency like NASA or be an astronaut.

I recently went to the KWH Jollies with Jason Sinclair. I guess we left the school in 1980, and Jason and I have bumped into eachother from time to time eversince, though nowadays it tends to involve large quantities of booze). Jason does better than I in keeping up with other KWH old boys, namely Chris Woods and Stuart Harrison. Also if you mooch about Epsom you could be lucky and have a sighting of none other than Ellis Jones, who is still going strong.

Anyway back to our visit. We turned up at about 3.00pm expecting the Jollies to be in full spate. As we approached the site of people struggling out of the school with folded up trestle tables raised our suspicions. Basically the first person we walked into was none other than Peter Brooks, in our time games and history master, and nowadays the head. Our suspicions were confirmed, as the Jollies have shifted such they coincide with sports day and the whole gig kicks off in the morning, and everything was being packed up. But, (and here's the high point for me) Peter was good enough to take us round to the beer table (used to be a tent) and get us a beer, gratis! Now that ain't bad. Still he kind of remembered Jason (Jason still only lives a hop skip and a jump away) and didn't really remember me, though I did point out I was 1st eleven goalie! (Richard Metcalfe was skipper, other team members include Gary Corcoran, Chris Woods, Richard Meir, John Hodgson.....running out now).

Peter encouraged us to have a good look around, and this, with beer in hand, we proceeded to do. I'll not bore you with masses of detail, suffice to say that things are different, though still very much the same......hmmmmm. I really do suggest you go and have a look yourself, you'll see what I mean. Here are some highlights.

The playing field is now an all weather pitch. I believe they do matches etc at Epsom College.
Katherine Davenport, ex geography teacher is still going strong!
Jacqui Peddar, Madame Peddar, left about 5 years ago.
We were under the impression that Mr Chris had passed on some time ago. Wrong! He's still around, but Gwyneth is no more.
The dining and kitchen arrangements are still the same, and apparently still run by the same lady.
The art and science rooms are still in the same place. The library is now an IT room. Mr Chris's study is now the staff room. Peter's headmasters study is the funny TV room at the back of the red brick building on the ground floor. He has however moved Chris's red and green lights and presumably still uses them. The classrooms (Trafalgar et al) are still in situ though thouroughly modernised. And finally, Jason and I managed to find our names etched into the wall. I kept it under my hat that I hadn't paid at the time!

I was at KHS from 1974-1978. Langlands had just been completed.
names I can remember are:
David Pytches, Stuart Ivermee, David Wilgoss, Robert Pepler, Ahmed Abdali, Ian Moyes, Michael Cowlard, Greville Wallington, Mark Williams, Christopher Farmer, Jason Quantrill, Peter Griffin, Derek Hewetson, Richard Bone, Stewart 3, Stuart Morgan.
..and whatever happened to Winslett? -I figured he was destined for olympic running glory.

Thanks to Tim Trent for letting me post this. I'm one of the ones who walked that mile to the train station through the town. Some of my fondest memories were at this school. Head was Scott-Malden and vice Principal was Mr Proctor. Mr Phillips for Art and Mr Brooks for PE and Mrs Harvey for English and Mrs Clark in form 1 and Mrs Peddar for french.
Anyone on the same page as me??
Since KHS I've been at schools around the world and went to boarding school in Scotland. Moved to Hong Kong, then USA. Now live and work in Denver Colorado USA.
and my name's on a brick next to David Pytches.
For the record...I was in Nelson. (they don't still have that 15x10 freezing pop-up swimming pool do they!)

We have moved. Old messages have been lost. Because the previous Messageboard host has gone to the wall. Sorry.
