Bob,
Look at page 15-21 in your service manual. The swich should not be there. Jumper around it and see if that solves your problem. ONLY do this after checking before and after switch for the battery positive power with the switch turned off (power before switch, but no power after switch. Also switch turned on (power before and after switch). If that is the case then remove added switch and tie white wire with red stripes together with solderless connector.
This should work, but I CANNOT gaurentee without bike in front of me.
