I don't think the low fuel light works off the float. I believe it works off of the rod that is wire wraped and extends down into the tank, and it usually comes on at around 1 gal or so left in tank. Now you can adjust the float arm to get a better reading on fuel amount left in your tank. Had to do that on our 2001. It read wrong from day one. Took it into the dealership for them to adjust. I even took the instructions I had copied from someone. Dealership made it worse. Go figure,, Purchased a used float assembly from Carl, worked great. I laid the 01' float assembly on top of the one from Carl, and adjusted the arms to be identical. Worked good. Left the one from Carl in the bike, put the OEM assembly in box and stored it.
