If you must put a connector in there, you can get Weatherpack connectors on ebay pretty cheap. Don't know if they have 9 pin units or not, but you could always put a 6 and a 4 in place of the factory piece. I used one of the 6 pin connectors for a project on my '01 recently. I didn't have the approved crimpers, but, I crimped them the best that I could, then soldered the terminal for a more permanent connection. After it cools, slide the seal down and crimp it on, then put the wire into the connector and snap it into place.
