Just did this last night on my '01, and have done it to my '90 also.

Under the trunk is where most people tie into the wiring.

Black with yellow tracer = ground
Red wire = running lights
Blue wire = brake lights
Green wire = left turn signal
Gray wire = right turn signal

There is also an accessory wire that is white with a female bullet connector. This wire will only be hot with the key on. The brown wire with white tracer, is the feed for the trunk light and is hot all the time. Also, it's either red with blue tracer, or blue with red tracer, can't recall, but it is the side marker feed. If you use that wire instead of the solid red wire, then your running lights for the trailer will not come on, until you hit the starter button. This might be easier on the battery, if for some reason you have to have the ignition on for a spell without the bike running. Otherwise, the running lights on the trailer will be on as soon as you flip the key. Something to think about. I also recommend changing out all the bulbs on the trailer for LED bulbs. Your electrical system will thank you. Chris
