By checking the harness that Mike mentioned, you need to take the left side fairing off. This harness plug will corrode after a time and could cause this problem, some have actually melted because of arcing and had to be bypasses or repaired. If you can get away by just cleaning this connection, apply electrical grease to prevent further corrosion when reassembling.
