Mike, go for it. I don't think it's a critical o-ring. The taper on the front of the screw is what seals the gas in the bowl. I believe the purpose of the o-ring (and it's been two years since I had my carbs off) may be to keep dirt out of the threads, or act as a seal if gas goes through the overflow tube so it goes down the hoses and not leak around the screw onto a hot engine or the same when actually draining the carbs. Use some type of lubricant when installing.

You can always order the o-rings through kawasaki.com and have them delivered to your local dealer. The screws are easy enough to get out with the carbs on at a later date.

One thing I did when I had my carbs off was to replace all the philips head screws with stainless steel hex head screws. That way I can do minor surgery withoug having to pull the carbs. I've done this with every motorcycle I've ever owned over the past 25 years and it has come in handy a few times.

Good luck. I'm off to put a dent in that $21 I just put in the tank.
