Thanks to all for the advice, I am up and running again. Yes, the blown low beam caused the high to come on dim at low setting and regular on high beam setting. My clearance issue remained behind the headlight with the vertical adjuster intact....my hands are large, but I used a mirror on a stick and a small pencil light and got bulb and boot and wire clamp removed and replaced.

I had a thought about getting more slack so that you can either remove the bulb or disconnect the vertical adjustment at the back of the headlight. If you go to the rider's end of the adjuster and remove the set screw from the adjuster knob, electrical tape some string onto the end of the shaft and then remove the nut that holds it in place....perhaps you can then pull out the headlight a few inches and not lose the end of the shaft inside the bodywork. You can then fish it back out with the string. I wonder if anyone has ever done this...or am i the only one with big hands?

Thanks all...I just wonder if I could even afford to keep riding without the help of this rider's group. John
