Subject: Battery sensor

After 29 months, had to replace the battery. Bought a wet cell type and filled it with the electrolyte that came with it, in the box. Charged it using a battery tender.
After 2 days of riding, the battery light came on. Upon inspection, found sensor tip wet, but red light comes on with bike running. Hmmm. Lets clean the tip (corroded?) I used steel wool; light went out when running.
Question: should one keep cleaning the sensor tip or replace it with new one??
