Subject: Tactics

A lot has been made and discussed on here about tactics. Football is a simple game and within tactics there are different ways of playing. I believe playing football from the back and a possession based strategy is definitely the way to go.
However within this way of play there are things that we can slightly tweak to make them more effective. Possession for possessions sake against possession with purpose. These are the things that Scot Parker and the team will be working on to refine the tactics. At times we are guilty of playing the ball too slowly allowing our opponents to get back into shape and make things more difficult for us. At the right times in games it is necessary to move the ball more quickly from defence into attack maximising the opportunities. At other times we may wish to slow the games down and wear the opposition down. This and midfielders breaking forward more, full backs overlapping and more crosses are all things that can be integrated within the system. As players grow and understand this we will get better. When you have the ball the other team cannot score is a premise often used by coaches, but key is making the best use of the ball. I believe we are on the right track and with players like the excellent Tom Cairney Mitrovic, Cav, Stef, Reid and Knockaert, we have the players that can flourish in this system. 3 points off the top and a long way to go I personally am very confident of us achieving our goals this season. One thing I really do like this season is the team are together again and that includes all our new signings who have integrated well.
