Subject: I think you miss the point. She is critiquing the current obsession of media for sex (including anal sex). In Fleabag sex disassociates her from the mental pain of her best friend comitting suicide, with the added horror that she comitted suicide because she lost the trust of her boyfriend and her best friend in one swoop. That is quite gritty really. She also plays heavily on the complicated familial dynamic between Fleabag, her Father, sister and self absorbed step Mother. Plenty of middle calls angst there which I suppose is a bit tiresome, but she is middle class so she could hardly write about other classes.
In reply to: Not a Fan of Fleabag or Killing Eve 's message, "I thought I was the only one. You should read some of the BTL comments in The Guardian - they would hotly deny it, but I am convinced that they sing the praises because (1) the writer is a woman (2) she writes about the "the female experience" and "taboo" subjects such as (gasp! shock!) anal sex - oh, how daring (3) in view of 1 and 2, no self-respecting Guardian reader could offer anything but unstinting praise.I suspect that many of them secretly self-pleasure at the thought of her. Utterly dreadful writer who will make a mess of the next Bond film unless they limit her involvement to fetching the coffee." on Wednesday, May 20, 11:37:09pm
