And to explain my 2nd sentence there....the ref in all innocence is placed in an invidious position as soon as the scheduling comes to notice, as it's bound to.. If keen to demonstrate lack of conspiracy, as would be only natural, this could be at the disadvantage of Man City. On any reading, there is needless extra baggage caused by the scheduling. - Precisely. Its the same as when refs are appointed to matches involving clubs from their area. I'm sure there is no bias (at least most of the time, mark Halsey), but why even create that question? Why have someone from greater manchester reffing a Man Utd game when you can have a referee thats not from greater Manchester doing it?
