Subject: Good morning all! Hope all is well. My family as usual

is busy. Classes started this past week again and I am on the go. There is a possible full time position available and I am not so sure I want to give up my time at home.

My daughter is in a talent show in a few weeks and of course we are excited.

Here is a question:

Do you think our kids have more opportunities than we had at their ages?

I think so. The other day, I was discussing Lauderhill Middle School to a friend. It was an open concept school. To me, it was a very difficult place to learn, as there was so much noise and distraction. Someone told me later they finally put in walls between classes.

If I had gone to a more traditional Middle School, I think my math skills would have been better. As it was, my high school math class was with the "burn outs" in remedial algebra..LOL Science was with Coach Sundy and that also was a joke.
Now that is a memory!! Did we actually make moonshine in there?

Lane do you remember Morning Math at Lauderhill Middle? Getting to school an hour before classes started to take math classes. I made it to algerba before the program ended. Then when I started at Piper I was stuck in a remedial math class may freshman year!

those early morning classes, but they were too late for me, too. I didn't learn math until Piper. I remember one kid...with wild red hair at Piper, who brought a guitar to class one day to math. The kids in the class treated it like play time, so I don't think I learned much from there either. *sigh*

My son Ryan went to Lauderhill Middle. I think the school was much friendlier in our time - open classrooms or not. Ryan was 1 of 3 white kids in the whole school and because of that, he was threatened daily. The kids used to wait for him at the walkover bridge on his way home. I remember Lauderhill Middle as a happy time; where my son was scared to even go to school. Times they are a changing!
Does anyone remember Erin Mullen? She had a pidgeon that she would bring to school every morning and send it home when she arrived. She was in gymnastics if I'm not mistaken.

hey I am a girl that go to lauderhill middle school right now in 2005-2006 it is fun there but we didn't even went on a field trip yet and kids there are bad the make the school look bad i hope when i reach the next grade the kids will be good. bye see yall later.

I think the entire Florida School system has a lot of explaining to do. If I could I would sue them for deterring my education and forcing me to "dummy down." When I moved down here in 5th grade I was three years ahead of everyone. When I got into 6th grade, wonderful Lauderhill Middle, I was given an independent pass, thrown a couple of made up photo copies of some assignments and told when I was done with that I'll get more. No direction, no involvement by the teachers, and no discipline. By 7th grade I was a year behind especially in math. In fact I still have problems with fractions because I was never given the proper instructions in math. I remember those morning math sessions. Big deal. The open air classrooms - an easy method to skip out of class. Stay for attendance then split when the teachers weren't looking. And they weren't looking. Piper was no better. Does anyone remember Mrs. Trickle, the guidance counselor. I was in 9th grade and I had to go into speak with her regarding something (it was not disciplinary I think it was about my academic load) She looked at me, said "Oh you're Audrey's sister aren't you [Audrey was my sister who quit schoool after causing lots of problems] Well, I'll be watching you, you'll probably be just like her." Nice. But the worst thing I remember is 12th grade English. I tried for many years to do well academically but I made poor choices in friends and smoked pot in high school. But I wasn't a druggie though many people thought I was (and worse). A 12th grade English teacher (I can't remember her name now) was teaching the structure of sentences and breaking them down in nouns, verbs, etc. I had a horrible nickname, given to me by either Jeff Smith or onc of those guys - Jaks. I hated it. But anyway, this teacher decided to use my name in a sentence. "Jaks is always high." I couldn't believe that she had done that. It hurt, everyone laughed and once again I felt that horrible feeling many people think about in high school. I'm nothing. I laughed along with everyone to try and keep face but I have always remember this. Needless to say when my kids go to school the teachers are going to know who I am. That crap will not happen. OK off the soap box. Oh, by the way still pregnant. I was due Father's Day. I'm now 5 days late. I'm going to walk now for the rest of the day. Maybe that will shake the baby loose! Carol Anderson I remember you. Just spoke with Chris Kedzerski a couple of days ago. She doesn't have a computer. Wish she did, lots of people ask about her. Hope you're doing well, and everyone else on this site too! Well, off to walking.

Walking never worked for me. Get your husband to take you for a drive and find every pothole there is. That should work.
I wish Chris Kedz had a computer too. I created a birthday card for her last year when she turned 40 that was a payback for all the times I heard that she and Chris Dallaire were 18 and I wasn't; they could drink & I couldn't, etc. Wait till the 2 of them turn 50. I'm great with graphics packages!
Was the English teacher Mrs. Decker? Kindof a redish color hair. I had her for Advanced English and we were learning what every word in the sentence was. There was Mrs. Garnett in 11th (short dark brown hair, older person type do)and Mrs. Springer for Advanced Humanities in 12th (the Wicked Witch of the West). She wouldn't let the band kids out early to set up for pep-rallies. We were released with everyone else. She gave homework like you had only 1 class for the whole day too!
I had a much better time in school, probably because I've been in South Florida forever. Junior & Senior year were the best because of Band. Lots of work, but well worth it.
As far as open schools and skipping, I'm afraid that was not an option for me. I was tooooooo afraid of my mother and what she would do to me if she ever found out.
Good Luck with the baby. You could also try Castor Oil. I didn't try it because I couldn't get past the smell & fear of the taste. I guess the same reasons why a baby would want out. Hope you got lots of sleep while you could!

I've heard about finding the potholes too. Someone suggested bicycling or horseback riding!
Mrs. Decker - that's who it was. Everyone loved her as a teacher, I did to until she did that to me. I never had nor heard of any of those other teachers.
If I could go back in time I would definately do high school different. It's so funny, my husband loved high school. He was involved in everything. A football player, thespian, chorus, he also ran the audio/visual stuff for all the teachers. He was a C student but he said high school was a wonderful experience. He's about 7 years older than me but when you listen to his experiences and mine you would think that I lived through the late 60s early 70s and not him!
I'm still pregnant, now a week late. So this morning we are inducing. Not something I wanted to do. I really want to go natural, even trying it without the epidural. But I hear that pitocin makes the contractions very intense. Well, just as long as he comes out. It's such an experience feeling another human being inside you but enough already, I want to start sleeping on my stomach LOL!

Pitocin is some nasty stuff. I had 3 C-sections and they gave it to me all 3 times. It helps to shrink the uterus back to normal. Then you have this stupid nurse who comes in and tries to knead your stomach. I wanted to hit her. Do you already know it's a boy? Is this your 1st? By the time you read this, it will be all over.

Hi Jackie! When I had my first son I wanted to go "natural" also. They had to induce me with pitocin too. After the first 8 hours I agreed to the epidural. It was the best decision I made because I was able to get some rest. My labor lasted 15 hours but it was all worth it when my son was born. And yes, you do forget the pain like everyone says. I feel the same about the So.Florida educational system. I am surprised we all surived it! My 7 year old had a terrible 1st grade. He went through about 7 different teachers because his regular teacher was sick most of the year. I am now trying to decide if I want to send him and his brother back to the same school or to another one. What is surprising is that their current school is an "five star" and an "A" School" even though I haven't seen it.
