- Exam Craziness :O) -- Me, Sunday, May 20, 4:29am
Hello,
I am off to Dublin next week and thought I'd share with you a little preperation tip I've come up with for learning the ceilis. I downloaded 'audacity' free from the internet and recorded myself saying all the ceili dances from ARF on different tracks. The programme is reasonably user friendly and I was able to export all the tracks to my itunes. So now, I have me reading all the ceili dances on my ipod - which I've been wondering around the house listening to! Best of all, after one listen my score on a past paper was 91% (my personal best so far being 65%) Am very pleased with myself and thought I'd share it with you for any other 'audio' learners out there :O)
I am slightly worried about my levels of sanity. 'back and back and back he goes cos Bonaparte's retreating...' just one of my many crazy ways of remembering the set dances! :O)
Hope you're all feeling sprightly for Dublin folks! Good luck.
xx

- You're all very welcome, I'm just providing a service, and a service that anyone of you could do if you wanted too; I'm nothing special. I contemplated going to Chicago and helping you guys out with running through ceili, helping with last minute solo steps, trads, etc, but its either shell out money on Chicago, or spend it on LA, and well, LA is where I need to go! I do have a friend going to Chicago, and will be telling her to hook up with you guys. -- Richard, Sunday, October 07, 4:31pm

- I must be nuts!!! I am knocking back shifts at work, my house is a pig sty, the weeds in my garden look like trees, and why? So I can make time to study, to prove to a panel that I am capable of being an Irish Dancing teacher. -- I have lost my sanity!! LOL, Thursday, October 11, 5:48pm

Does anyone know if the music played in the music section of the exam is from the standard commission CD, or do they try to trick you with strange versions of the set dances??

Can anyone explain to me what the men do...meaning which way they TURN after they do half right and left? I know they pass by right shoulders...but when they turn into the other gents place...do they turn to towards the 'outside' meaning to their right...or towards the inside and the other lady's corner...as in to their left?? I can't figure it out??

- Quick question -- TC hopeful, Tuesday, October 16, 6:17am
Where would I find the official speed ranges for the various dances for each level? I've read recently on the dance.net board that the speeds in the US are slower for beginner than they are in Ireland. Is there a list published anywhere? I'm using standard cds (Pat King, Dean Crouch, etc.) in my practice and study, but this seemed like an interesting question. Thanks in advance.

- Is it an automatic fail if your dancers dont get through a part??? I taught one ceili without any major hangups, but dancers never danced skip across to time or correctly, even though we went over it again and again. -- No name, Sunday, October 14, 5:01am
