Subject: President Lyndon Baines Johnson (D) said when He signed the civil act that the Democrats would lose the South to the Republican party. He was right, a majority of Democrats in the South moved to the Republican party, and are still there.----->>>>>>>

*On July 2 1964 the Civil Rights Act was signed into law in America. The first of three such legislations is was an attempt to deal with the increasing demands of African-Americans for equal rights.

President Lyndon Baines Johnson asked for and received the most comprehensive civil-rights act to date; the act specifically prohibited discrimination in voting, education, and the use of public facilities. For the first time since the Supreme Court ruled on segregation in public schools in 1954, the federal government had a means of enforcing desegregation; Title VI of the act barred the use of federal funds for segregated programs and schools., In 1964 only two southern states (Tennessee and Texas) had more than 2% of their Black students enrolled in integrated schools..

To date the Democrat majority seems to be on the way of nominating Obama for President of The United States.

I am afraid that there are still enough Democrats that will vote Republican in Nov., and put the Republicans back in the white House.

That would be a great disaster. We've had enough Bush and McCain is just like Him.

[> I don't know how much the CRA affected this state. I think Jesse Helms did more to pulling us from D to R. When I came down here to school in the mid 70's, my college yearbook shows a handful of students in the Young Republicans, while the Young Dems had a pile of members (and this was a small college). About 7 years ago I went to homecoming and noticed while thumbing through a yearbook how that had shifted. Handful of young Dems, a pile of young Reps. -- janet, 07:43:48 02/23/08 Sat (r75-110-6-247.gvllcmtc01.gnvlnc.ab.dh.suddenlink.net/75.110.6.247)
