of course the people are ready for a change, why not, what else do you have to lose, don't you think if women all voted then a women would be elected, a black president could also do a great job, why not, being gay i support the minorities and i think a gay president would do a good job if given the chance, a narrow mind leads to poor results, i'm happy proud and gay and a change would make my day, love matthew.

My intention wasn't to troll the board. It was simply to open dialog.

Right now, my preferences are actually for one of the two current Dems candidates described in my post.

This board (and I happen to be one of the original participants) represents a great cross section of the USA. That was the intent for my post.

Although I know we can all say "Why sure".... personal preference aside, I just have to wonder if the country is ready.

Personally, I'm just not sure the country as a whole is ready for this - though I'd like to think so.

I can only base my opinion on the section of the country where I live.

It seems to me that it is racist and/or sexist to choose someone on the basis of being female, or gay, or a minority just as it is sexist or racist to exclude someone for those reasons. We need to select the best PERSON for the job, period. I don't care if the candidate is green and his or her sexual preference is of no interest to me. He or she can belong to any religion or no religion. We haven't come very far if we can't see past that. I am looking for a person with intelligence, honesty, integrity, experience, a desire to help the working American, and a sense of humor would be nice. too, but not vital. Does anything else matter?

I got to thinking yesterday morning, while watching the morning shows, if folks in the deep south would be able to look past race, should Obama get the nomination... then I was thinking about the military - would Hillary be able to collect their vote - and that's where the origin of my post came from. Do they really have a chance?

yes i agree that the best person should get the job, hands down, no arguement from me on that one, but no doubt you can't sterotype anyone that can do the job, we sterotype people here when it comes to electing people and pretty much everything else in general, not everyone of course but it can and does sway any election, anytime, now of course people will debate that but i'm saying women can influence an election for the right person but will have many disruptions from the archie bunker american negative impact, whats fair is not always fair in anything and most people understand that.
